Fifth Paragraph - Conclusion
Fearing the worst, Bristol’s eyes rattled back and forth, looking for an answer in King Ginger’s expression. “Come with me Bristol,” the king solemnly requested, and he led her passed the tapioca fountain to a long hallway that stretched at least a mile. The hallway was lined with pictures of gingerbread houses from around the world. The number and diversity of these images, for a moment, steered Bristol’s thoughts away from the loss of her sister. Her eyes scanned the portraits to find gingerbread cabins, townhouses, and barns. Gazing further, she found gingerbread skyscrapers present in Tokyo, gingerbread tents staked in the desert, and a gingerbread hut on the shore in Hawaii. “These are amazing!” Bristol said, with wonder in her voice. “They are yours. At least, you designed them,” King Ginger gracefully replied while tapping one of the images with his walking cane to point out the inscription where Bristol’s name was written in vanilla icing. Bristol saw her name, but upon not seeing Kensley’s beside it, she pleaded, “Beef, please tell me where Kensley is.” Upon this reply, he turned his red-head and led her to the end of the hallway where there was a picture that stood alone. This gingerbread house was not like the others. The roof was a little crooked, the doorknob was missing, and quite a few of the gumdrops were absent from the fence that surrounded the house. The sprinkles laid in big patches here and there on and around the house, as if it had only snowed in particular locations. However, it was on this image that the vanilla inscription read, “Bristol and Kensley’s First Gingerbread House.” After reading these words, Bristol said, “I don’t understand. Why isn’t Kensley’s name on any of the other pictures?” “It’s because you didn’t want it to be,” the king replied. You said she was too little to help you with your designs.” The king’s words cut the last strand that was keeping Bristol’s heart from plummeting entirely into her stomach. She buried her face into her hands and cried, “No! I’m so sorry Kensley! I want you to help me, and I’ll teach you how. Just please come back.” The king gently patted her head, and said, “It’s ok. Everything will be ok.” As she wept, Bristol continued to feel a pat on her head, but the touch became much lighter and then a voice spoke, “It ok sissy! Sissy don’t cry!” Bristol lifted up her head to find her wide eyed baby sister sitting in the bed next to her still clinging to her babydoll. “It Christmas Brisa. No cry!” Kensley gently whispered looking into her big sister’s tear stained face. “You’re right Kensley,” Bristol said whipping her nose with the sleeve of her nightgown. “It is Christmas and I am not going to cry because I have you. Now let’s get some more sleep before the sun wakes us up,” Bristol stated as she snuggled back down into the fuzzy blankets leaving enough room for Kensley’s head on her shoulder.

Fourth Paragraph - Falling Action
The palace was crawling with gingerbread men and women of all shapes and sizes. Some served in the kitchen, others in the candy garden, maids trotted about with cotton candy dusters, while herdsmen tended to the animal crackers in the royal farmyard. Throughout the course of the day, Bristol asked everyone she met, “Do you know where Kensley is?” However, they all replied in the same fashion. The gingerbread men would tap their bald heads and the gingerbread women would give her a polite, but wobbly curtsy and simply reply, “No, my lady!” With every negative response, Bristol could feel her heart sink a little bit deeper into her stomach. She was just about to sit down in the middle of the caramelized ballroom floor and burst into tears when she heard the tune of White Christmas echo through the delicious structure. “The ginger king has arrived. Places everyone!” she heard the head butler say. Bristol stood underneath the blue taffy archway that divided the ballroom from the foyer and watched as the ginger king made his entrance into the palace. The king was not made of a cookie; on the contrary, he was a man. His hair was as red as a cherry lollipop, and his blue eyes reflected the light from the gummy bear chandelier that hung above the doorway. He wore a green bowtie, a black suit, and his voice was richly deep. When he finally spoke, he boldly pronounced, “My, Miss Bristol has done it once again. This must be her finest design yet.” As Bristol watched the king’s regal entry, she found him to be somewhat familiar, but it wasn’t until she laid eyes on his beef jerky walking cane, that she realized that the king was none other than her cousin, Heath, whom she had a specific nickname for. “Beef!” she hollered out and ran to meet him at the front door. “Bristol, it is so nice to see you!” the ginger king replied while maintaining his dignified composure. The king continued on to say, “Bristol, your gingerbread house is simply breathtaking, and your artistic abilities become better each year.” Without losing another moment, Bristol asked this familiar face the question that she had been seeking an answer to all day, “Beef, do you know where Kensley is?” However, King Ginger hung his head low and looked deeply into Bristol’s eyes before uttering a word in response.

Third Paragraph – Climax
This was more than Bristol had bargained for. She awoke, not to a gingerbread house, but a gingerbread mansion. Her bed was made of one giant marshmallow surrounded by candy cane posts. The walls were a marble, candy cane swirl. “Is this for real?” she thought, as she gently slid off of the mattress and placed her feet onto the sparkly carpet, woven together entirely of pink sprinkles. Just then, a sugary mist blew the door open and a real life gingerbread woman appeared before Bristol’s eyes. She was wearing a white apron, and before her rolled a tea cart on M&M wheels. “What will it my lady?” the maid spoke in a high pitched, cheery tone. When Bristol didn’t speak, she continued, “The cat has never had your tongue before. Come on now, what will it be? I have brought you hot chocolate, and your choice of honey or cinnamon graham crackers, chocolate or vanilla frosting, and a bowl of gumdrops or Milk Duds. Of course, you cannot have them all or King Ginger will have my head for breakfast.” Bristol’s face was puzzled, and when she finally spoke, she coughed out, “My Gingerbread house.” “Well of course this is your gingerbread house,” the woman spoke as she prepared Bristol’s breakfast. Without another word, Bristol ran out of the bedroom door and what she beheld was nothing short of scrumptious splendor. The walls stretched at least 50 feet above her head and the ceilings were comprised of familiar red and green squiggles, loops, circles, and stripes. A Nutter Butter staircase led the way down to the magnificent ballroom, which was outlined by columns of red Twizzlers, which rose from carmel floors where the grand piano took center stage with its keys made of white and dark chocolate. Overcome with delight, Bristol raced backup the staircase and hollered, “Kensley, Kensley, get up! You have to see this. It’s real! Sample First Paragraph:
“Eww,” Bristol shrieked when her baby sister sneezed. “Mom, Kensley is too little to do the gingerbread house with me, and she almost sneezed on it,” Bristol continued. “No! I’m Kizzy Burk and I do,” Kensley argued, as her mom wiped her nose and brushed her straight, sandy hair from her eyes. Both girls looked like a badly wrapped Christmas present as they were covered in frosting shades of white, green, and red. Their mom was busy writing Christmas cards, and while Bristol carefully worked to decorate the tasty structure, Kensley waited for her mom to look away so she could lick some more frosting or chew on another gumdrop. Bing Crosby’s voice filled the brightly lit kitchen, and Bristol wondered to herself whether or not tomorrow really would be a white Christmas. “We just need to add some more sprinkles to the top,” Bristol told her sister. She was having trouble opening the package. She tried to tear it apart with her hands and her teeth, but nothing worked. She finally told Kensley to grab the other side and pull. Their mother was just about to grab a pair of scissors when sprinkles filled the sky. Under normal circumstances, the girls would have gotten in trouble for this mess, but the Christmas spirit softened their mother’s expression, and she began to laugh. When the girls knew they were safe, they both began to laugh as well. Shaking the white sprinkles from her long, curly hair, Bristol said, “Mom, there’s no need for me to dream anymore about a white Christmas.” However, Bristol did wish one thing that evening as she wiped up sprinkles from off the floor. She wished she could really live inside of her gingerbread house, or at least go there on vacation.
